Hyderabad: A Telugu teacher at a govt school in Medak was placed under suspension after over 10 girl students of Classes IX and X accused him of inappropriate behaviour, including objectionable remarks, unwanted physical contact and threats of low marks.The allegations came to light during a school awareness session on good and bad touch on Aug 7, when several students approached women teachers and spoke about the teacher’s alleged conduct. The students reportedly said he made inappropriate and double-meaning remarks, touched them in an unwelcome manner and behaved in ways that made them uncomfortable in the classroom.The women teachers subsequently informed their colleagues about the complaints. As the headmaster, was not available at the school that day, the teachers contacted him on the phone and apprised him of the allegations. The school reopened on Aug 11 after three consecutive holidays. The headmaster, in the presence of a few teachers, reportedly summoned the teacher, and sought an explanation. The teacher denied wrongdoing and reportedly said he was willing to apologise if necessary.‘Girls approached child helpline 1098’The students, however, approached the child helpline 1098 the same day and lodged a complaint alleging inappropriate behaviour by the teacher. Ch Nagaraju, district child protection officer, told TOI that officials conducted an inquiry soon after receiving the complaint and submitted the report to district administration on Monday.During the inquiry, the students reportedly told the officials that the teacher had made offensive remarks, touched them inappropriately and threatened to give them low marks if they did not follow his instructions. They also alleged that he would ask students to enter the classroom individually when they went to get their notebooks checked and would use abusive language if more than one student went in.“We concluded the inquiry on Monday and submitted the findings to higher officials. Suspension orders have been issued against the teacher based on the findings of the inquiry,” said the headmaster. As of Monday, local police had not received any complaint in connection with the claims. Medak SHE Team officials, have initiated an inquiry and are scheduled to visit the school on Tuesday.
