Lured by high returns, man loses Rs 2.2 crore in stock investment scam

Hyderabad: A 55-year-old private employee from Kapra has lost Rs 2.20 crore in a stock market investment fraud. On a complaint lodged by the victim, Malkajgiri cybercrime police registered a case and launched an investigation.The victim, from Saket Colony in Kapra, stated in his complaint that on June 15, 2026, he was added by an unknown person to a Telegram group called Future Tomorrow 2061. A person identifying herself as Anita claimed that she represented a stock trading company and lured the victim into investing in stocks through fake trading platforms with promises of high returns.“Believing the scheme to be genuine, I transferred Rs 10,000 on June 16 and later invested Rs 1 lakh on July 6. The next day, I was convinced to join a VIP group and made to transfer an additional Rs 2 lakh,” the victim said.The fraudsters had subsequently persuaded the victim to participate in IPO investments through the fraudulent platform. “The fraudulent platform, Fin* Investment, showed the total investment value at Rs 22 crore. When I tried to withdraw Rs 1.5 crore, the fraudsters claimed a risk flag had been raised on my account and demanded Rs 1.5 crore to revoke it. Trusting their claims, I transferred an additional amount of Rs 1 crore,” the victim told police.Between June 15 and Aug 27, the victim had transferred over Rs 2.2 crore to different bank accounts provided by the fraudsters. As they did not let him withdraw any amount even after paying the additional fee, he suspected that he had been cheated, and approached the police.On his complaint, a case was registered under Sections 316(2) (criminal breach of trust), 318(4) (cheating), 319(2) (cheating by personation) and 338 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc.) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the IT Act on Saturday by the Malkajgiri cybercrime police.
