Hyderabad: The city is set to emerge as a global knowledge hub, with top universities from the US and UK planning campuses, specialised courses, executive programmes and research centres in the city following chief minister Revanth Reddy-led Telangana Rising delegation tours of the UK and US.Northeastern University, Boston, and the University of London, a federation of 17 independent institutions, will set up their first offshore campuses in India in Hyderabad.The London School of Economics (LSE) and School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) will send teams to explore offshore schools, specialised courses, industry partnerships and bringing faculty to Hyderabad. Harvard University has also expressed interest in short-term executive education programmes for senior government and corporate officials at the MCR HRD Institute.The delegation held discussions with senior leadership and faculty from Oxford University, MIT, Cambridge University, Imperial College London and London Business School. Virginia Tech will explore industry-aligned, future-ready learning frameworks, while Oxford will examine shared research centres and centres of excellence.“World-class faculty from major universities will come to Hyderabad to offer specialised higher education courses. The $3-trillion Telangana Rising vision rises with partnerships with the world’s best educational institutions,” the CMO said.Revanth Reddy, who also holds the education portfolio, said the agreements and letters of intent would boost Telangana’s ambition of becoming a $3-trillion economy by 2047, with a $1-trillion target by 2034.“We will bring the best educational offerings to the youth and children of not only Telangana but the entire country,” he said.IT and industries minister D Sridhar Babu said the global knowledge hub would strengthen Hyderabad’s knowledge economy and attract more GCCs and companies.MCR HRD Institute vice-chairperson A Santhi Kumari said classes and executive programmes would begin soon, with classrooms being redesigned for world-class education.Revanth also directed officials to include a dedicated global education and sports track at the Invest Telangana Global Summit scheduled for Dec 7-9.
