Constituency fund shortage due to BRS’ misrule, says TPCC chief

Hyderabad: TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud said on Thursday that the Congress disciplinary committee would examine MLA Anirudh Reddy’s remarks on pending bills in Jadcherla, adding that several constituencies across Telangana were facing a shortage of funds.Responding to Anirudh’s statement that he was ready to die for constituency development if that was what it took to clear the pending bills, Goud said it was incorrect to suggest that bills were pending only in Jadcherla. He blamed the fund shortage on BRS, alleging that its policies had contributed to current financial constraints.Speaking to media at the party office, Goud also said Congress would stand by former minister Konda Surekha. On El Nino, he said natural disasters should not be politicised and criticised BRS leader T Harish Rao’s remarks on the weather phenomenon. He said people of Siddipet were laughing at Harish’s comments and recalled how former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao had made light of the Covid-19 pandemic by referring to paracetamol. The TPCC chief criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks on Congress’s performance in recent elections. He said electoral victories should be assessed by where parties won rather than merely by seat counts. Citing results in Nagpur, Varanasi and other constituencies, he claimed BJP was facing public discontent. He also criticised Modi for not holding press conferences to answer journalists’ questions.Goud also alleged that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls had created unrest across the country and accused BJP of using the process to improve its electoral prospects. He said Congress had sought special trains to transport party workers to Delhi for an INDIA bloc rally on Nov 1, but railway authorities had not granted its request. He alleged that pressure from central govt offices was behind the decision. Congress workers would be taken to Delhi despite hurdles, he said.He said Union home minister Amit Shah’s visit to Telangana would yield no significant benefits. He also alleged that protests over SIR and examination paper leaks reflected public dissatisfaction with BJP’s governance.
