JNTUH students claim HC order not fully implemented

Hyderabad: Ten JNTU Hyderabad students who faced disciplinary action following a campus clash have alleged that the university is not fully implementing a Telangana high court (HC) order allowing them to appear for semester examinations. The students approached the HC after the university suspended them following the Sept 3-4 altercation. They said they intervened when a female student was allegedly being harassed. On Oct 27, the HC put the university’s Oct 13 disciplinary circular on hold, insofar as it concerned the 10 students, until Dec 15. It directed the university to allow all 10 students to appear for their ongoing and remaining semester examinations. The court also ordered the university to make arrangements for two students to write the Oct 26 International Business examination, which they had been prevented from taking under the circular. The students have since written to state higher education officials, seeking permission to attend classes and return to their hostels. However, the court order did not specifically direct the university to restore classroom attendance or hostel access. When contacted by TOI, registrar Dr A Jaya Laxmi denied the allegations. “The allegations are wrong and baseless. Students are allowed to write the examinations, but they are not allowed to attend classes. We are following the court order,” she said.
