Hyderabad: Telangana high court on Monday declined to grant interim protection from arrest to Sumanth, former OSD to minister Konda Surekha, in a criminal case registered at Jubilee Hills police station in which he is accused of assaulting a businessman and demanding Rs 10 crore from him. The matter has been posted for further hearing on Tuesday.Appearing for the petitioner, advocate P Vamsheedhar Reddy submitted that the other accused in the case had already been arrested and expressed apprehension that Sumanth could also be taken into custody. He informed the court that the petitioner was willing to cooperate with the investigation and sought interim relief.Justice J Sreenivas Rao, however, declined to pass any interim orders after hearing the submissions of the additional public prosecutor.The prosecutor contended that the complainant, businessman Gongidi Harikrishna, had sustained serious injuries allegedly at the hands of the petitioner and his associates. It was also submitted that the inspector of Jubilee Hills police station had been placed under suspension due to the delay in registering the case against the petitioner.Senior counsel Pappu Nageshwar Rao appeared on behalf of the de facto complainant.
