HC suspends life sentence of convict in murder case | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: Telangana high court has suspended the life sentence of Mohd Farooq Ahmed, former vice chairman of Adilabad Municipal Council, and granted him bail pending disposal of his appeal challenging conviction in a murder case reported in Dec 2020. A division bench, comprising Justices K Lakshman and K Sujana, passed an interim direction on Monday. While granting bail, the division bench observed that Ahmed had already served over five years in jail since Dec 18, 2020, with no other pending criminal cases. The court noted that because it was currently hearing appeals from 2017 and 2018, there was no immediate likelihood of taking up his 2022 appeal. Consequently, the case met the precedent parameters set by the Supreme Court. The bench further mandated Ahmed to furnish a personal bond of Rs 25,000 with two sureties and a strict condition against engaging in any criminal activities during the bail period.Ahmed had opened fire with his licensed pistol and attacked three persons with a knife during a dispute over a street cricket match in Adilabad town in 2020. One of the victims, former municipal councillor Syed Zameer, succumbed to bullet injuries.
