Private technical colleges flouting 7th Pay norms, allege faculty | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: Alleging that private technical colleges are not paying salaries to their faculty as per the Seventh Pay Commission, members of the Telangana Schools Technical Colleges’ Employees Association (TSTCEA) demanded that the govt order a comprehensive state-level inquiry into salary payments by private technical colleges.In a letter to the chief minister, the association said the govt must establish an effective mechanism to ensure that faculty salaries are paid regularly and on time, irrespective of delays in fee reimbursement.“As per the All India Council for Technical Education norms, colleges are required to comply with the prescribed pay scales, including the Seventh Pay Commission salary structure, wherever applicable. But it is not being followed in the state. Further, several colleges have submitted affidavits to the Telangana Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee stating that they are paying salaries as per the prescribed norms and have obtained approval for increased fee structures on that basis. However, at many colleges, the actual salaries being paid to faculty are not in accordance with the declared norms,” said A Santhosh Kumar, president, TSTCEA.Members said appropriate action must be taken against institutions that have declared compliance but are not actually paying the prescribed salaries to faculty. They also demanded that the state establish a separate technical education board/authority to monitor private technical colleges in Telangana.
