Name Warangal airport after freedom fighter Moulvi Alauddin: Asad | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday urged chief minister A Revanth Reddy to name the Mamnoor airport in Warangal after freedom fighter Moulvi Syed Alauddin, a native of the erstwhile Warangal district. In a letter to the CM, Owaisi stated that the Mamnoor airport was built in the 1930s under the rule of the Nizams for the benefit of the paper industry in Warangal.Responding to the CM’s request for suggestions on names for the new airport, the Hyderabad MP proposed “Maulvi Syed Alauddin Airport”, stating that Alauddin had participated in the 1857 revolt against British rule. “Alauddin, along with Turrebaz Khan, led the historic resistance against the British Residency in Hyderabad on July 17, 1857. Alauddin was subsequently imprisoned at the cellular jail. His contribution is significant to Hyderabad and south India’s role in the freedom struggle,” Owaisi stated.Owaisi’s suggestion came days after the CM sought suggestions from the public on a name for the airport. “I welcome your recent invitation to the people of Telangana to suggest a suitable name for the airport. In this regard, I request that the airport be named Maulvi Syed Alauddin Airport, in honour of one of the prominent freedom fighters from the undivided Warangal district who was associated with Hyderabad’s resistance to British rule during the 1857 uprising,” Owaisi said. Naming the airport after Alauddin would be a fitting tribute to his courage and sacrifice, he added.
