Hyderabad: The Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) on Tuesday suspended the FSSAI licences of two dairy units in Rangareddy and ordered them to stop operations immediately after officials found serious hygiene and food-safety violations during a special inspection drive. The licences of Sapthagiri Foods at Karmanghat and All Rich Dairy in Pasumamula were suspended following the inspections.Separately, Venkata Shiva Milk Point in Hayathnagar was closed for operating without an FSSAI licence and under unhygienic conditions. Officials inspected 20 dairy establishments in Hyderabad’s core urban region and adjoining districts. As many as 18 samples were also collected from various units on suspicion of adulteration.At Sapthagiri Foods, officials found uneven flooring with moss growth, poor drainage, a heavy presence of houseflies, inadequate pest-control measures and garbage accumulation. Records of water and milk testing were also unavailable, while the hygiene practices of food handlers were found to be inadequate. At All Rich Dairy, officials reported housefly and cockroach infestation, slippery floors with water stagnation, inadequate lighting, spitting of pan masala inside the cold room and flaking of walls and ceilings. Personnel hygiene facilities were also found to be inadequate and unhygienic.TGSAFE said the two units had been directed to stop business operations immediately in the interest of public health. Officials also found mould growth, rusty equipment and pipes, poor drainage and a lack of water-testing, pest-control and health records of food handlers at some other establishments. Meanwhile, improvement notices will be issued to 10 such units, while show-cause notices will be issued to three others. A milk point at Hayathnagar was closed for operating without an FSSAI licence and under unhygienic conditions.
