Hyderabad: Madannapet police arrested a 28-year-old man and his wife for allegedly dumping food waste near an Annadanam event organised at a worship place in a govt double-bedroom housing complex on Sunday. The couple was remanded in judicial custody, police said on Tuesday.Tension prevailed at the housing complex on Sunday afternoon after food waste, wrapped in a plastic bag, was allegedly dumped close to food vessels at the worship place where the food donation event was being held. Following the incident, members of a community staged a rasta roko near the site, demanding the arrest of those responsible.Police took the resident and his wife into custody the same day. Based on a complaint from a resident of the complex, Madannapet police registered a case under Sections 196(2) (promoting enmity between groups and acts prejudicial to harmony) and 299 (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings), read with Section 3(5) (common intention) of the BNS.“We have arrested the couple who live in the same residential complex. They were produced before the court and sent in judicial remand on Monday. The third accused, who is their friend, is absconding,” Saidabad ACP S Venkat Reddy said.
