Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday urged the speaker to convene a special session of the assembly for two or three days in Dec to discuss El Niño, the Kaleshwaram project and Godavari-Pranahita waters. He said BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao should attend the debate along with his MLAs and that the discussion would help bring out the facts. “I will present the facts before the people of Telangana, as BRS leaders are indulging in daily falsehoods regarding El Niño, the three barrages of Kaleshwaram and Godavari-Pranahita waters,” he said.He also announced that he would launch the ‘Praja Balam’ programme after Sankranti in January and tour all districts, visiting villages to interact directly with people and understand their problems amid the El Niño conditions.Addressing a public meeting after inaugurating a mega Rythu Mela and an industrial expo, followed by an interaction with progressive farmers and agricultural scientists in the Kodangal constituency, the CM appealed to farmers to remain cautious while planning their crops in view of the anticipated El Niño-induced drought.“Do not fall into the trap of the Opposition and take up water-intensive crops such as paddy. Water levels in reservoirs are already at dead storage levels or are very low. We can only ensure a drinking water supply. Therefore, I request that you opt for less water-intensive crops and vegetables,” Revanth said.He said ministers, MPs, MLCs and MLAs would visit villages along with him to support farmers and collectively tackle the drought situation. Recalling how people overcame the Covid-19 pandemic through collective efforts, he expressed confidence that the state would overcome the challenges posed by El Niño as well.He criticised BRS leaders for neglecting Mahbubnagar and its farmers during the party’s tenure in office. “Ignoring the Centre’s offer to designate a project as a national project, former chief minister KCR sidelined the Pranahita-Chevella project and instead built the Kaleshwaram project. We requested the Centre to order a CBI inquiry into the irregularities surrounding Kaleshwaram. Was it not the top BRS leaders who went to Delhi, knelt before Prime Minister Modi and requested that the CBI investigation be delayed?” Revanth alleged. The CM ridiculed BRS leaders for making what he termed vague and unviable demands to release water from the Kannepalli pump houses. He said the Sripada Yellampalli project fills up only when three pumps operate simultaneously. He said water from the Devadula project, through the Sitarama project, was being supplied to farmers in Khammam. “We are currently providing water to farmers in Khammam by drawing it from the Sammakka Sarakka barrage through the Devadula and Sitarama projects. Today, the Devadula project at Tupakulagudem is supplying water to thousands of acres,” he said.Revanth said his govt was committed to transforming Kodangal into a model constituency and announced plans to develop the region as an education hub and industrial centre, including projects connecting Hyderabad airport to the Lagacherla Industrial Park. The govt was also working to promote agricultural exports, including Tandur pulses, and develop the RARE Education Hub along with industrial parks. Development works worth another ₹10,000 crore would be taken up in the constituency. “Tomorrow is Diwali for everyone, but today is Diwali for the people of Kodangal,” he said.Revanth takes swipe at KTR over beardIn an indirect attack on BRS working president KT Rama Rao, Revanth alleged that the BRS leader had grown a beard to imitate his appearance after noticing the public support he enjoyed.“A fox cannot become a tiger merely by looking like one. You cannot become Revanth Reddy by growing a beard. Even if you are born 10 more times, you will remain KTR,” he said.He added that winning the affection of party workers and earning a place in their hearts were essential to becoming a leader.
