The COVID pandemic forced down a lot of businesses and organizations, which also included the charity event that a nonprofit for cancer patients had organised to raise funds for patients and their families.
In 2020, Keanu Reeves auctioned a 15-minute video call for a charity event
According to CNN, during the height of the pandemic, after a charity event was cancelled, a nonprofit meant for cancer patients was suffering. ‘John Wick’ star Keanu Reeves was one of the many who stepped up to raise money and awareness for the firm by taking advantage of the digital era. He offered a 15-minute Zoom conversation to the highest bidder. The unusual auction lot was created to bridge a massive financial gap after the organization’s primary annual fundraiser was abruptly cancelled due to public health restrictions.Titled ‘15 Minutes of Fame with Keanu Reeves,’ the experience allowed one lucky fan to chat privately with the star of The Matrix and John Wick from their home. The auction raised critical funds for pediatric cancer patients and their families at a time when traditional fundraising operations had ground to a halt. The official description of the video call from the auction read, “Bill & Ted. Speed. The Matrix. John Wick. You know him. You love him. This is truly priceless, and now you have the chance to Zoom with him from home! Get your questions ready and spend 15 minutes with actor, director, producer, and musician Keanu Reeves.”

He was also not the only celebrity that contributed to the charity auction. The list of celebrities included singer Ally Brooke, formerly of Fifth Harmony, who contributed a private 15-minute Zoom mini-concert. Other than that, voice actor Rob Paulsen also offered a one-hour experience in which the winner could get advice on voice acting, as well as signed merchandise and a recorded voicemail message. The call collected USD 16,000 from the highest bidder while the initial estimated value had been set at USD 10,000.

About Keanu Reeves’ philanthropic efforts
Reeves has continuously spent his career giving back to the community and taking part in charitable events. Some of these include operating his own private cancer foundation, which he operated for years as an anonymous entity. The organization has been operating since the early 2000s and is dedicated to funding children’s hospitals and cancer research. To this date, he does not attach his name to the facility. This was heavily influenced by his younger sister, Kim Reeves, who spent over a decade battling leukemia in the 1990s.On multiple occasions, he has shared his film earnings with production crews and stunt teams from many of the projects that he has worked on, including the ‘Matrix’.
