KTR blames Congress for drought | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao alleged that the drought-like conditions emerging in Telangana are a result of the Congress govt’s negligence and not due to natural causes. He expressed concern that despite the Godavari river flowing with abundant water, agricultural lands across the state are turning barren.Speaking at the presentation ceremony of the Mallavajhala Sadasivudu Memorial awards, KTR said, “This is not a drought brought by nature; it is a drought created by the rulers.” He accused the state govt of deliberately neglecting major irrigation projects such as Kaleshwaram and Palamuru-Rangareddy, allegedly due to political hostility towards former CM KCR.The event, organized by the Telangana Vikas Samithi, honored Cheman Singh with the 2024–25 memorial award and Sangishetti Srinivas with the 2025–26 award. Literary and cultural personalities Tirunagari Devaki Devi and Kavvampalli Swamy were also felicitated for their contributions.Addressing the gathering, KTR stated that the current situation was not caused by a lack of rainfall but by administrative failure. He said that during the first seven and a half months of the year, approximately 750 TMC of water flowed through the Godavari river and 258 TMC through the Krishna river, yet nearly 1,000 TMC of water ultimately flowed into the sea without being effectively utilized for irrigation. He said the BRS had repeatedly urged the govt to lift and distribute the available water to protect farmers, but those appeals were ignored. KTR said the govt’s indifference has left farmlands dry even while rivers continue to carry substantial volumes of water.Recalling the contributions of poet Mallavajhala Sadasivudu, KTR praised his role in inspiring the Telangana movement through literature and songs. He highlighted the popular song “Talapuna Parutundi Godavari”, describing it as a powerful source of public awareness during the struggle for Telangana.
