Homeless woman raped, brutally assaulted; hunt on for two youths in Telangana | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: A 53-year-old woman living on the streets was allegedly raped and brutally assaulted by two unidentified youths in Makthal town of Narayanpet district in the early hours of Thursday.The woman, who had been living on the streets along with her 12-year-old son, was sleeping near the junior college ground on Wednesday night when she was attacked. Police were alerted after morning walkers found her unconscious at the ground.According to Makthal sub-inspector P Raju, the two youths allegedly approached the woman around 2 am and attempted to take her towards the ground. When she resisted and raised an alarm, her son woke up and tried to intervene.The suspects allegedly hurled at the boy and chased him away before taking the woman into the ground. She was then allegedly sexually assaulted and subjected to severe physical violence.Police said the attackers allegedly inflicted serious injuries on the woman before abandoning her at the spot. She was found bleeding and unconscious several hours later.Morning walkers who noticed the woman informed the police, following which a team rushed to the scene and shifted her to a hospital for treatment. Her condition is stated to be stable.Investigators have launched a search to identify and trace the two suspects. Police are examining the circumstances surrounding the crime and reconstructing the sequence of events.“The woman either begs or takes up occasional wage work. She and her son would sleep at places where they found shelter for the night,” SI Raju said.While residents voiced concerns that the suspects could be youths involved in drug abuse amid allegations of ganja availability in parts of Makthal, police said no link was established between the assault and ganja supply.A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
