₹1.33 cr siphoned from CAR welfare funds, 2 staffers held | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: An alleged ₹1.33-crore fraud involving welfare funds meant for police personnel has surfaced at the City Armed Reserve (CAR) headquarters, with two employees accused of siphoning off money through forged cheques and unauthorised transfers. The duo has been arrested and remanded in judicial custody.Central Crime Station (CCS) police registered a case against two employees of the CAR headquarters for allegedly misappropriating ₹1.33 crore from various welfare and service-related accounts by forging signatures on cheques. The case came to light after E Kalyani, administrative officer at CAR headquarters, lodged a complaint with CCS on Oct 28. During an internal scrutiny of records, officials reportedly detected irregularities in several CAR-managed funds, including education, sports, widow, dhobi and recreation funds, besides unit welfare, water charges, and canteen accounts.According to the complaint, junior assistants B Vinay Kumar and Mohsin Jalal allegedly misused unused cheque leaves from old cheque books and forged the signatures of authorised officers to withdraw funds.“The cheques were presented at the SBI’s Hussaini Alam branch and funds were transferred to various individual accounts,” the complainant told CCS police. Investigators have so far identified 35 suspicious cheques and NEFT transactions carried out between Aug 2022 and April 2026.“The transactions are not supported by cash books or other office records. While some beneficiary accounts belong to the two employees, we suspect the other accounts may have been opened solely to route the money. The cash books were poorly maintained,” said a CCS official.Based on the complaint, CCS police registered a case under Sections 316(5) (criminal breach of trust), 318(4) (cheating), 336(3) (forgery), 337 (forgery of public records), 338 (forgery of valuable security), 340(2) (using a forged document as genuine) and 344 (falsification of accounts), read with Sections 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.“Both the accused were arrested and remanded to judicial custody on Oct 29. We will seek their police remand,” said a CCS official.
