Harish Rao Demands Immediate Shift of Maheshwaram Medical College

Hyderabad: Former minister T Harish Rao said alleged pathetic conditions in govt medical college at Maheshwaram demanded the govt to shift the college to fully equipped govt or rented building close to Vanasthalipuram or LB Nagar TIMS. He asked the Ranga Reddy district collector and Director of Medical Education (DME) to give the written assurance to the students personally.Speaking at a dharna programme along with the students and former minister Sabita Indra Reddy at medical college, Harish Rao said the conditions in the medical college worse than a cattle shed and the govt has not been paying the bills for the past 26 months including electricity, water, rent.“The govt has been claiming it will compete with US and China. But it looks like it is competing with Nepal and Sri Lanka going by the current situation. The Revanth Reddy’s govt has Rs One lakh crore for Musi project and Future City, has no money to clear the pending Bills,” the BRS deputy floor leader said.He said the principal of the govt medical college wrote multiple letters on various issues such as garbage, scrap, dogs, monkeys and snakes menace on the college campus, but the govt has not responded and taken no action. Students from Telangana and from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Kerala chose this college because it is close to Hyderabad. Had they known what was waiting for them here, not one of them would have chosen it.The ex-minister, who spoke to district collector Narayana Reddy and DME Vani Devi from the college on phone asked immediate shifting of the college to near LB Nagar TIMS.“Until the shift, provide bus facility, drinking water and washrooms at once, and allow buses and students’ own vehicles right up to the college premises. The govt must clear the pending rent and the water and electricity dues so that the building is maintained in the meantime,” he said.Harish Rao said he was not criticising for the politics. “The proof is in the letter the building’s owner has written to the govt from the day the building was handed over on 1 August 2024, the water bill has not been paid, the electricity bill has not been paid and the rent has not been paid. Because the govt did not pay, the owner stopped maintaining the building. The result is what you see. No water, no washrooms, electrical wiring hanging loose, no laboratories, no library, no hostel,” he said.Even a small private school is asked for fire safety, NOC and OC before it opens. The Chief Minister and Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha must answer how a government medical college has been run without a single clearance, among snakes and pigs, Harish Rao said.He said students have already protested in January and twice since. They have submitted representations to the collector, to the principal and to the DME. Their parents met the Health Minister in person. Still, the ministers and officers sitting in air-conditioned rooms have not heard them, Harish Rao said.ends/
