Hyderabad: Calling for unity ahead of key electoral battles, Congress MLA and former minister Konda Surekha on Tuesday urged party leaders to rise above factional rivalries and work collectively to strengthen the party. She also cautioned leaders against making irresponsible remarks, saying undisciplined public statements only damage the party and its prospects.Addressing a gathering after distributing Chief Minister’s Relief Fund cheques to beneficiaries at her camp office in Warangal district, Surekha appealed to Congress leaders to set aside internal differences and focus on the party’s success.“If you speak recklessly, we will have women give you a sound thrashing. Be warned that each woman is capable of taking on four men. Opposition leaders are merely making empty threats,” Surekha said.The former minister said she was not disappointed about no longer being in the cabinet, though she observed that continuing as a minister would have given her an opportunity to serve people at the state level.At the same time, she said the change had enabled her to devote greater attention to the development of the Warangal East constituency. She promised to remain accessible to the people and work towards addressing local issues.Surekha said the Congress’s immediate objective was to secure a majority of seats in the forthcoming Warangal Municipal Corporation elections. She asserted that she would not tolerate any harm to her supporters and criticised BRS leaders over their conduct near MGM Hospital recently.The Congress leader also targeted the opposition, alleging that its leaders had quarrelled among themselves, clashed with the police and later got themselves admitted to hospital.She took exception to a recent BJP protest near the new collectorate and accused BJP leaders of speaking on issues without proper understanding.Questioning the BJP’s commitment to Warangal’s development, Surekha urged its leaders to focus on securing funds from the Centre before making political accusations. .Reiterating her commitment to Warangal East, Surekha said her focus would remain on constituency development while ensuring the Congress emerges stronger in the region.
