Hyderabad: Revenue and housing minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Tuesday said the govt has decided to identify govt lands belonging to various departments in the CURE area, transfer them to the housing department, and construct ground-plus-10-floor (G+10) apartment complexes for the poor. He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for Indiramma Towers at Red Hills in Nampally assembly constituency. Minorities welfare minister Mohammed Azharuddin, MP Anil Kumar Yadav and AIMIM MLA Majid Hussain were also present.“Though the value of land in the city ranges from ₹200 crore to ₹250 crore per acre, the govt’s primary objective is to provide a home to a poor family rather than merely generating revenue from that land. As many as 480 beneficiaries were selected through a transparent draw held on Tuesday, and they would be allotted flats in the towers to be constructed at Red Hills,” Ponguleti said.So far, the govt has identified land parcels in 20 constituencies in the CURE area. The tendering process for the construction of Indiramma LIG towers has been completed for 17 locations, and construction work will commence soon, he said. The minister stated that the market value of each flat currently being constructed under the Indiramma Towers ranges from approximately ₹80 lakh to ₹1 crore. He promised to complete the construction within a year instead of the usual two or three years and hand over the house keys to the beneficiaries by the end of next year.No registration chargesHe assured that, unlike in the past, when only certificates were issued, the govt would take steps to register the homes directly in the beneficiaries’ names without any commission or registration charges. This would enable them to secure loans for family needs, such as children’s education and weddings, if required. He instructed officials to ensure that families moving into the towers do not face any drainage-related problems. The housing department would take responsibility for connecting the drainage system at the construction site to the main trunk line.The minister said the participation of beneficiaries in the housing construction process would be ensured. Beneficiaries would be given an opportunity to visit the construction site once a week to personally inspect the quality of construction of their flats. Ponguleti criticised the previous govt for building houses 30–40 km away from areas where the poor lived, causing them severe hardship regarding their livelihoods. He stated that the Congress govt is selecting housing sites while taking into consideration the livelihoods of the poor, their children’s education and other family needs.He said govt viewed the poor’s dream of owning a home not merely as an election promise, but as a govt responsibility that was being actively fulfilled. Congratulating the 480 beneficiaries selected so far, the minister assured them that subsequent phases, second, third and fourth, would also be launched and that construction of houses across all four phases would be completed and keys handed over to the beneficiaries before the elections.
