Budgam encounter: Army kills LeT terrorist in fierce gunfight in Yousmarg | India News
NEW DELHI: The Army on Tuesday killed a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist during an encounter in the higher reaches of central Kashmir’s Budgam district, security officials said. The encounter took place in the Korag area of Yousmarg after security forces launched a joint search operation based on specific intelligence inputs.The operation was conducted by the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF Srinagar. The forces were searching the general area of Korag when troops noticed suspicious activity.The troops challenged the suspected terrorists. The terrorists responded by opening fire. Security forces then retaliated, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.One terrorist was killed in the exchange. The Army identified him as a member of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba.
Operation still under way
The security forces continued their operation in the area after the terrorist was neutralised. Searches were being conducted in the surrounding areas to check for any other terrorists.In a post on X, the Army’s Chinar Corps said, “Based on specific intelligence input, a joint search operation was launched by the Army, J&K Police and CRPF Srinagar in the general area of Korag, Yousmarg.“Vigilant troops observed suspicious activity, and upon being challenged, terrorists opened fire, prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire in which one terrorist was neutralised. Operation is in progress.”The Army did not immediately release further details about the identity of the slain terrorist.

It was also not immediately clear whether any weapons or other material had been recovered from the encounter site.The latest operation comes weeks after another terrorist was killed in the same region.Earlier this month, a terrorist identified as Yasir was shot dead in the Yousmarg area. The operation was part of security forces’ efforts to track down terrorists operating in the region.
