Bihar chief minister Samrat Choudhary ordered authorities to provide a thorough report as soon as possible, after reviewing the state’s flood situation and the devastation it caused.A news release states that BJP national president and MP Nitin Nabin attended the review meeting, which took place in the “Sankalp” auditorium at Lok Sevak Awas.During the meeting, water resources department secretary Dr Chandrashekhar Singh briefed Choudhary on the causes of the floods and the situation that developed in the state in two phases.In the first phase, the Ganga, Son, Ghaghra, Kosi and Punpun rivers recorded their highest-ever water levels compared with previous records.During the second phase, excessive rainfall led to the Gandak River reaching record water levels at four locations. Embankment damage was reported at six locations across West Champaran, Gopalganj and Saran districts.Santosh Kumar Mall, Principal Secretary of the Disaster Management Department, gave a briefing to the group about the relief and rescue efforts conducted during the floods.According to Choudhary, this year’s extraordinarily high water levels in the Ganga, Gandak, and Son rivers compared to prior years created a major flood situation.He also identified silt accumulation in riverbeds as one of the major factors contributing to the floods. The Chief Minister noted that Bihar was the first state in the country to formulate a silt policy.In order to expedite relief, rehabilitation, and necessary development work in affected areas, the chief minister instructed officials to keep a close eye on the current state of rivers and the damage caused by the floods. He also ordered that a preliminary detailed report on the damage caused by the floods be submitted as soon as possible, according to ANI report.On October 12, 2026, Choudhary announced that households impacted by the second phase of the floods will get ex-gratia assistance.Additionally, he instructed the Disaster Management Department to work with all relevant agencies to evaluate the damage caused by the floods and the estimated cost of repair, and to submit the report as soon as possible.In light of potential issues, officials were also instructed to make the required preparations following the draining of water from flood-affected regions.Senior officials included Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit, Agriculture Department Principal Secretary Narmadeshwar Lal, Disaster Management Minister Ratnesh Sada, Deputy Chief Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav, and Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary were present in the meeting.Meanwhile, on Saturday, October 3, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary gave the Disaster Management Department instructions to guaranty the prompt delivery of relief supplies to flood-affected and inaccessible areas of Saran district, with special air-dropping operations being conducted in cooperation with the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Defense.The Chief Minister’s Office reports that 15 Indian Air Force helicopter missions have delivered over 28 tons of food supplies, including more than 5,600 dry ration packages, into flood-affected districts of Saran district. In accordance with Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary’s directives, the Disaster Management Department organized the air-dropping operations in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Defense to guaranty the prompt delivery of vital food supplies to flood-affected and inaccessible areas.The initiative was aimed at reaching affected areas where road connectivity had been disrupted. The Disaster Management Department and district administration are continuously monitoring the flood situation, while alternative modes of transportation are being used alongside road routes wherever required.The administration is working to ensure that essential relief materials and food supplies reach every flood-affected family as quickly as possible.

Pilots and personnel from various Indian Air Force units have been involved in the relief operation. The air-dropping mission is being conducted under the leadership of Group Captain Anuj Gupta and Wing Commander Vishal Khatri (Gorakhpur), Squadron Leader Rohit Dadarwal, Flight Lieutenant Kunal Kalamkar (Bagdogra) and Flight Lieutenant Rathore Bharat Singh (Bagdogra).Choudhary expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Defence and the Indian Air Force for delivering relief supplies to flood-affected people in Bihar during the crisis.He said relief and rescue operations were being carried out effectively in the affected areas through coordinated efforts by the Central and state governments.
