Traffic crawls at just 7 kmph on day 1 of KBR Park one-way system | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: To test the new one-way system around KBR Park, TOI took a ride from the Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital on Road No 10, Banjara Hills, to the park entrance — a 5-km stretch covered under the pilot project. While the journey usually takes 10 to 15 minutes, the ride on Tuesday took 45 minutes. The first logjam hit almost immediately near the cancer hospital, where vehicles were stuck for at least five minutes. From there, it took another 10 minutes to reach the Jagannath Swamy temple on Road No 12, Banjara Hills, barely a km away.A speedometer app used during the journey showed traffic crawling at 7 kmph around the KBR Park corridor — less than half the city’s average rush-hour speed of 16.1 kmph, according to the TomTom Traffic Index. The citywide average time to cover 10 km is 32.37 minutes. The most congested stretch was between the cancer hospital and Jubilee Hills Road No 45, where it took nearly 30 minutes to cover 3 km.However, the situation eased briefly between Jubilee Hills Check Post and NTR Trust Bhavan. With a large part of the traffic heading towards Jubilee Hills Road No 45 and the Durgam Cheruvu Cable Bridge, traffic on this stretch was relatively lighter.Eventually, the ride, which started at 11.40 am, ended at 12.25 pm.‘Peako’ goes liveTo help motorists navigate the revised traffic arrangements, traffic police have introduced ‘Peako’, a route guide aimed at helping commuters understand the new system and choose the correct routes.Officials have urged commuters to share their experience with the new system. A QR code has been provided for motorists to submit feedback on traffic movement, route clarity and difficulties encountered while navigating the corridor. The feedback, authorities said, will help identify problems with the new arrangements and fine-tune traffic management to make journeys around KBR Park safer and smoother.
