Rape case: Trainee IPS officer taken into 2-day police remand

Hyderabad: A trainee IPS officer accused in a rape case registered at Attapur police station was taken into two days of additional police remand on Tuesday. Investigators will interrogate the accused until Wednesday evening to recover an iPhone allegedly containing evidence related to the case. On Thursday, he will be taken to a govt hospital for a potency test.A team of Attapur police, along with personnel from the Women Safety Wing, took the trainee IPS officer into custody from Chanchalguda prison at around 10.30 am on Tuesday. The interrogation continued until 5 pm at the Attapur police station.“The aim is to recover the accused’s iPhone, which contains evidence related to the case, as well as the original copy of the suicide note written by him. The entire interrogation process has been video-recorded,” said a police officer involved in the investigation.It is learnt that investigators could not elicit any useful information from the accused on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the court has permitted the police to conduct a potency test on the accused.“After the custodial interrogation, the accused will be produced before the court on Wednesday evening and sent to judicial remand. On Thursday morning, he will be taken to a hospital from the prison for the potency test,” said an investigator.
