Truck with plastic raw materials catches fire, driver unhurt

Hyderabad: A truck carrying plastic raw material from Gujarat to Chennai caught fire on NH-167 near Janampally in Kodangal of Vikarabad district on Sunday around 7.40 am. However, no injuries were reported as the driver managed to escape the blaze.According to Kodangal fire station officials, the truck was heading towards Chennai with a load of plastic granules when its engine suddenly overheated near Janampally, triggering a short circuit. Flames broke out in the cabin and spread to the plastic cargo within seconds, engulfing the entire vehicle.“The driver noticed the blaze in time and jumped out to safety. He escaped with minor injuries, but the truck and its cargo were reduced to ashes. Preliminary investigations pointed to engine overheating and an electrical short circuit as the cause. Further inquiry is underway. The loss of property is estimated at around Rs 24 lakh, while property worth Rs 14 lakh was saved,” a fire official said.Two fire tenders and local authorities reached the spot after receiving information and assessed the damage. Thick smoke from the burning vehicle caused temporary traffic disruption on the highway until officials cleared the scene.
