5 held in suicide abetment case

Hyderabad: Masab Tank police have arrested five persons in connection with the death of a 24-year-old man who allegedly jumped from the seventh floor of an apartment building following an altercation over payment for a damaged motorcycle. The deceased, Mir Sofiyan Ali alias Adil, a private employee from NAB Chowni near Charminar, jumped from the terrace of a seven-storeyed apartment in First Lancer during the early hours of Aug 20 after an argument with the accused. He succumbed to his injuries later that same day while undergoing treatment at Osmania General Hospital.Police said a suspicious death case was registered based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s father. The investigation revealed that Ali had borrowed a motorcycle belonging to Md Hanzala Pasha (24), a private employee at First Lancer, and his friend, Md Isaquddin (25), a businessman, a few weeks earlier. The motorcycle was later damaged in a road accident.“The damaged vehicle remained at Ali’s house, as Pasha and Isaquddin insisted that he either repair it or pay for the repairs before returning it. On the night of Aug 19, their friend Mustafa called Ali to Pasha’s apartment. After reaching the terrace, Pasha, Isaquddin, Mustafa, Md Nawaaz and Md Imran confronted him over the payment. When Ali cited his financial difficulties and the accused allegedly dismissed his pleas, he jumped from the terrace,” Asifnagar ACP K Srinivas said. The five accused were arrested on Friday under Sections 108 (abetment of suicide) and 3(5) (common intention) of the BNS. They will be produced before a court for judicial remand.
