Woman preparing for NEET-PG dies by suicide in Hyderabad hostel; note cites depression | Hyderabad News
HYDERABAD: A 26-year-old NEET-PG aspirant allegedly died by suicide in Hyderabad on Saturday, a day before she was scheduled to appear for the postgraduate medical entrance examination, police said.The deceased, a native of Andhra Pradesh who had completed her MBBS, allegedly consumed an unknown poisonous substance in her room at a private hostel.According to police, she had been staying at the hostel for the past seven months while preparing for the NEET-PG examination and was scheduled to take the test on Sunday.A purported suicide note was recovered from her room. In the note, she stated that she had been suffering from depression since her intermediate education (Classes 11 and 12), a police official said. The note did not mention anything related to the NEET-PG examination, he added.Police said she had been undergoing treatment and taking medication for depression. Preliminary investigation suggests that she may have taken the extreme step due to her prolonged struggle with the condition.“She had spoken to her father today morning. Her father told her that they will visit her and will take them to the exam centre tomorrow. After that she did not attend her father’s phone call following which he contacted the hostel staff and told them to verify.”“The staff noticed her lying unconscious in the room and shifted her to a hospital where she was declared brought dead,” the official said.A case has been registered at Chikkadapally police station and further investigation is underway.
