Skyroot co-founders, Aum Ventures invest Rs 17 crore in Bengaluru spacetech startup OXG Space

Hyderabad: Skyroot Aerospace co-founders Pawan Kumar Chandana and Naga Bharath Daka have invested in Bengaluru-based spacetech startup OXG Space as part of a ₹17 crore funding round led by Aum Ventures from its India Innovation Fund II. Dr Chiran Phanindra, founder of Cosmoserve, also participated in the round.OXG Space, founded by former ISRO engineers Akash Shetty and Sanjay Gorur, is building edge cell towers in orbit for Earth-observation satellites. Its network combines 5G non-terrestrial network-inspired connectivity with in-orbit computing, allowing satellite data to be relayed, processed and fused in space before being delivered to users as near-real-time intelligence.Aum Ventures founding partner Chetan Mehta said OXG is addressing the missing layer of connectivity and compute in orbit as EO constellations expand.According to OXG Space, currently satellites often wait four to 12 hours for a ground-station pass and remain out of contact for much of the day, losing value as data ages.OXG said the funding will support Mission Synapse, a 12-month in-orbit demonstration of its Ka-band phased-array antenna, deployable mesh reflector and scalable solar array. The company is targeting an initial 1 Gbps-class link, with a roadmap to 64 Gbps per spacecraft for defence, intelligence and commercial Earth-observation operators in India and abroad.
