Tabu has opened up about the nervousness surrounding the release of ‘Drishyam 2’, sharing that even her close friends weren’t convinced Hindi audiences would turn up for the sequel once the Malayalam original had already released. Here’s what she shared at the trailer launch of the upcoming part.
Tabu recalls friends’ doubts before release
Speaking at the trailer launch of ‘Drishyam 3’, Tabu shared that the second instalment came out at a time when the pandemic had just eased, and conversations around whether people would return to theatres were still ongoing. With the Malayalam version already out, several people close to her questioned whether the Hindi remake would find an audience at all.According to IANS, she said, “When the second part was going to release, it was just after the pandemic and everything. And the Malayalam version had already come. Some of my friends themselves were like, ‘Yeh aa gayi hai, tum log ki picture kaun dekhne jaayega?'”
Tabu admits she too was worried
The actress confessed that this scepticism got to her as well, leaving her unsure if audiences would actually step into theatres for a story they had already watched in another language.She shared, “It was really worrying for me to think that maybe nobody would go and see it here. It had already come in Malayalam, and during the pandemic, everyone had watched it. And I wanted to really wait and watch whether really nobody would go and see the second part or what. But I was really completely clouded.”
How the narrative changed after release
Once ‘Drishyam 2’ hit theatres and performed well, Tabu said the doubts around the Malayalam version faded away entirely, replaced instead by genuine excitement from viewers.“The excitement that people have is something that I will always treasure, apart from the intensity of this character and the range of emotions that she got to play. I am not saying goodbye to this unless Kumar ji and Abhishek give us something on paper saying that it will never be made again. Then we will believe it. Otherwise, you never know. Kumar ji will call up and say, ‘Abhishek ne ek outstanding thought nikal liya hai 4 ke liye,” Tabu concluded, hinting that a fourth instalment isn’t entirely off the table.
