Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday registered a disproportionate assets (DA) case against Vuyyala Somaiah, town planning officer of Suryapet municipality, and unearthed assets worth over ₹20 crore allegedly linked to him.The 57-year-old officer is also holding the additional charge as town planning officer of Kodad municipality. On Thursday morning, ACB officials conducted simultaneous searches at his residence and office in Suryapet, as well as at seven other locations linked to his relatives and associates in connection with the DA case.During the searches, ACB teams identified several assets, including 3 acres and 3 guntas of agricultural land in Suryapet; five houses, comprising a two-storey house, a three-storey house, a five-storey building with a penthouse, and two single-storey houses in Suryapet and Hayathnagar; eight plots in Suryapet; ₹4.63 lakh in cash; ₹13 lakh in bank deposits; 709 gram of gold ornaments; 1,750 gram of silver ornaments; two cars; three two-wheelers; household articles and electronic gadgets; and a gold loan of ₹49 lakh obtained by pledging 66.9 tolas of gold with a bank.“The documentary value of the assets is about ₹3.54 crore, but their market value is estimated to be over ₹20 crore,” an ACB official said.The accused has been arrested under the Prevention of Corruption Act and will be produced before the ACB special court in Hyderabad on Friday for judicial remand.The ACB appealed to the public to report any demand for bribes by public servants through its toll-free helpline, 1064.
