SC verdict on Danam Nagender disqualification a victory for democracy: Ramchander Rao | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: Welcoming the Supreme Court verdict upholding the High Court order disqualifying MLA Danam Nagender, Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao on Thursday demanded that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy ask all MLAs who had joined the Congress to resign and face by-elections.Rao said the MLAs should seek a fresh mandate from the people if they had the courage to do so.He described the verdict as a “historic victory for democracy and constitutional morality”, saying it reaffirmed that everyone must respect the Constitution.Rao credited the BJP Legislative Party’s legal battle for the outcome and said legislatures should not become platforms for political defections. He alleged that the Congress had undermined democracy in the name of “Ghar Wapsi” and said the BJP would intensify its legal battle in the courts as well as its public campaign against what it described as unconstitutional actions by the Congress government.Rao accused Revanth Reddy of encouraging defections despite being responsible for implementing the anti-defection law. He alleged that attempts to use the Speaker’s office to gain a constitutional advantage had failed before the law.He also criticised Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, alleging that the decision to give a Congress ticket to an MLA elected on another party’s B-form exposed what he termed Gandhi’s “hypocrisy” and “double standards”.Rao said the BJP would continue its fight against defections and what it described as violations of constitutional principles.
