KTR Alleges Government Failure Behind Drought Conditions in Telangana

Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao has alleged that the drought-like conditions prevailing in Telangana due to the inefficiency of the govt, not the result of natural calamity. He claimed that farmers are facing severe hardships because of shortages of irrigation water, electricity, and urea, while the government has failed to address their concerns.Speaking at Telangana Bhavan on Tuesday during the induction of several Congress and BJP leaders from the Nirmal constituency into the BRS, KTR accused the govt of failing to utilize available river water for agriculture. He alleged that despite sufficient water flowing in major rivers, it is being allowed to flow into the sea instead of being used for irrigation. He further claimed that the govt has refused to operate the pumps of the Kaleshwaram project, resulting in crop losses for farmers.“Congress govt’s poor water management is a major reason for the current agricultural distress. Large quantities of water from the Godavari and Krishna rivers have flowed unused into the sea, despite the potential to utilize them for irrigation across large stretches of farmland,” he said.KTR expressed concern that farmers are being forced to transport water through tankers to save their crops. He also alleged delays in the disbursement of Rythu Bandhu assistance and worsening shortages of electricity, urea, and irrigation water. The BRS leader recalled that during the ten-year BRS govt led by former CM KCR, farmers received 24-hour free electricity and improved irrigation facilities. He said welfare schemes such as Rythu Bandhu, KCR Kit, Kalyana Lakshmi, and Shaadi Mubarak, stating that these programs provided significant support to the public. He also noted that paddy procurement continued even during the COVID-19 crisis.Criticizing the Congress govt, KTR said it had failed to fulfill promises made during the elections. He questioned why commitments that were promised to be implemented within 100 days remain unfulfilled nearly three years after the party assumed office.Claiming that Telangana requires strong leadership to overcome the present challenges, KTR said that KCR’s leadership remains crucial for the state’s development and welfare. He expressed confidence that Telangana would regain momentum under KCR’s leadership.KTR also announced that the BRS will hold a major public meeting in Nirmal on November 11, where more political leaders are expected to join the party.ends/
