EAGLE attaches ₹3.5 crore assets in narcotics case

Hyderabad: EAGLE officials have attached properties worth ₹3.5 crore belonging to three persons allegedly involved in an illegal narcotics network. The properties have an estimated market value of ₹6.55 crore, officials said.Last year, EAGLE sleuths arrested two Nigerian nationals, Ugwu Ikechukwu alias Emma and Chukwu Ogbonna alias Big Joe, along with their local associate Mohammed Mateen Siddiqui, for their alleged role in peddling cocaine. Police seized 16 grams of cocaine, 52.3 grams of MDMA, eight mobile phones, three laptops, two pen drives and ₹45,000 in cash.Further investigation revealed the involvement of Syed Abdul Azeez Sohail, Syed Naseer Ahmed, Syed Yousuf Haq, Shantilal Suresh Kumar Jain and Uttam Jain. Officials said Anand Kumar Jain, Suresh Kumar Jain and Uttam Kumar Jain played key roles in operating the network.A financial probe identified movable assets worth ₹55.36 lakh and immovable assets worth about ₹2.96 crore belonging to three accused persons, their associates and relatives. The properties are valued at ₹2.96 crore according to govt rates, while their estimated market value is around ₹6 crore, officials said.Investigators alleged that some of the assets were acquired using proceeds from narcotics trafficking. Anand Jain surrendered before a local court and was later granted bail by the Telangana high court.The properties were identified after investigators verified revenue passbooks, sale deeds, property tax receipts, building permissions, registration certificates, purchase invoices and other ownership documents to establish the asset trail and financial links.EAGLE officials attached the properties under Section 68(F) of the NDPS Act after moving a petition before the competent authority in Chennai.
