AIMIM worker stabbed to death in Hyderabad, lens on family ‘black magic’ feud

HYDERABAD: An AIMIM worker was stabbed to death by assailants near his home in Vattepally in the Falaknuma area on Sunday night, with police probing whether the attack was linked to a long-standing family grudge stemming from suspicions of black magic.While two juveniles allegedly involved in the attack were apprehended on Monday, the main accused, Mohsin, and others are absconding, police said.The victim, Mohammed Mahboob Ali (53), was a resident of Fatima Nagar in Vattepally. He operated a dosa stall and had recently ventured into real estate.According to the police complaint, Mahboob Ali had gone to Almas Hotel near his house at around 10pm to buy food. While walking back home from the hotel, Ali stopped about 100 metres from his house to speak to an acquaintance.While he was talking to the man, six people arrived on two bikes.“The group launched a sudden attack on Ali without any provocation. The accused stabbed him multiple times and fled from the spot,” Rajendranagar DCP S Srinivas said.Mahboob Ali was taken to a nearby hospital by locals. He succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at around 10.45pm, the officer said.After the incident, AIMIM MLC Mirza Riyaz Ul Hassan Effendi and Bahadurpura MLA Mohammed Mubeen visited the spot.“Mahboob Ali was our party’s Vattepally area president. Family members suspect the involvement of a known person. Police are investigating,” the MLC said.The main suspect, Mohsin, is the nephew of Ali’s late brother-in-law, Khaleel, who died of a kidney ailment two years ago. However, Khaleel’s family suspected that Ali had used black magic against him, police said.
