156 private junior colleges across Telangana listed as non-affiliated

Hyderabad: As many as 156 private junior colleges in Telangana have not received affiliation for the 2026-27 academic year, according to Telangana Private Junior Colleges Managements Association (TPJMA) president Satish Gowri.Of these, 27 have been categorised under zero admissions, while the remaining colleges face other affiliation-related issues, including fire-safety compliance, he said.A list dated October 17 names 27 colleges under the categories “not affiliated” and “nil admissions”. It lists 14 colleges under Rangareddy, seven under Medchal and six under Hyderabad district.Without affiliation from the Telangana Board of Intermediate Education (TGBIE), colleges cannot operate as Board-approved institutions for the relevant academic year. The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) reported that 75 Fire No Objection Certificates (NOCs) submitted by junior colleges for 2025-26 and 2026-27 were either not issued by its office or found to be non-genuine, and recommended cancellation of permission or affiliation for the concerned colleges.Opposing the Board’s actions, TPJMA members met at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram on Saturday. Gowri alleged that the Board was targeting smaller, affordable colleges while favouring corporate institutions. He said more than 95 colleges had been fined lakhs of rupees and demanded the withdrawal of penalties and zero-admission orders.“Immediately withdraw the unlawful fines and ‘zero-admission’ orders targeted at budget-friendly (small-scale) colleges,” Gowri said in a statement. TPJMA also sought simplification of Fire NOC and affiliation requirements and a high-level inquiry into the conduct of Board officials. It warned of statewide protests involving students, parents and faculty if its demands were not addressed.Despite repeated attempts, the TGBIE did not respond to STOI’s queries.
