Voting for TGSRTC union polls ends, results on Oct 17

Hyderabad: The elections for the recognised union of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) concluded peacefully on Friday, with employees voting to elect their representatives at the state and regional levels after a gap of 10 years. The main contest was between the Employees Union and the Telangana Workers Union (TWU)-led alliance.Polling began at 5am and continued until 6pm. Each employee was entitled to cast two votes, one to elect the recognised union at the state level and another to choose the union representing their respective region. The results will determine which unions secure recognition to represent RTC employees.A total of 115 polling booths were set up across three zones: 32 in Greater Hyderabad, 38 in Hyderabad and 45 in Karimnagar. Postal ballot voting was also permitted on Oct 14 and 15 for employees deployed on long-distance services, enabling them to participate in the elections. The corporation has 34,899 eligible voters, including 14,514 conductors, 13,769 drivers, 4,207 garage staff and 2,409 employees in other categories.Greater Hyderabad zone has the highest number of voters at 13,797, followed by Karimnagar with 11,392 and Hyderabad with 9,303. The corporation’s head office has 274 eligible voters, while 133 employees at the bus body unit in Miyapur are also eligible to vote. Counting of votes is scheduled for Oct 17.
