Hyderabad: The four-storey building in Gopanpally’s NTR Nagar that developed a sudden visible tilt was demolished by the authorities on Saturday. The structure, which began leaning to one side on Friday, was brought down using a heavy crane. Officials safely evacuated all the occupants inside the building as well as residents of nearby houses.The demolition began around 1 pm and was completed by 10 pm.Cyberabad municipal corporation (CMC) officials said the G+4 building, constructed on a compact 50‑square‑yard plot in Serilingampally zone, developed cracks possibly due to excavation and construction activity on an adjacent site, causing it to tilt towards the front‑right side. They also flagged poor construction quality as a contributing factor.“A case will be filed over alleged illegal construction. Our records show that the owner raised five floors instead of the permitted G+1, and that the plot may be on govt land, raising encroachment concerns,” said Akbar, assistant city planner (ACP), town planning wing, Serilingampally.The incident has renewed concerns over unsafe, high‑density construction on tiny plots in rapidly developing parts of western Hyderabad, where many structures come up on 50 to 60 square yards. On Aug 22, a seven‑storey under‑construction building collapsed in Anjaiah Nagar, Gachibowli, killing two people. Following the incident, a builder was arrested and a town‑planning official suspended after investigators cited structural overload, regulatory violations and poor quality on a small plot.In Nov 2024, a five‑storey building in Siddiq Nagar near Gachibowli tilted suddenly, triggering mass evacuation and swift demolition after unauthorised cellar digging next door undermined its foundation.
