Rental row behind bizman’s murder, say police; 6 arrested

Hyderabad: A week after a garments businessman was stabbed to death in Hafeez Baba Nagar, Kanchanbagh police arrested six accused and said the murder was the result of a rental dispute in which the victim had backed his uncle against the property’s owner.Syed Omer (35), a garments businessman from Hafeez Baba Nagar, was murdered on Nov 3 near a salon in the locality. A local resident, Syed Bin Mehfooz (44), who tried to intervene, also sustained injuries. After suffering multiple stab wounds, Omer ran towards a nearby shop before collapsing. Ambulance personnel declared him dead at the scene.Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s father, Syed Rafeeq (60), Kanchanbagh police registered a murder case and launched an investigation.Following a detailed probe, police arrested Aman Qureshi (35), Khaled Bin Abdus Samad Bayeesa Al Amoudi (34), Jaffar Bin Hawail (36), Mohammed ShafiUllah Qureshi (39), Mohammed Ali Abrar (21) and Dasthagir Mohiuddin Ahmed alias Imran (20), all residents of Hafeez Baba Nagar and nearby areas. Two others, including the alleged mastermind Abdul Khader Ahmed Batawil Almoodi and his associate Muzammil, are absconding.According to Rajendranagar DCP S Srinivas, the motive was a long-running dispute over a rented house owned by Almoodi.“Omer’s uncle, Abdul Barawaz, lives on rent in Almoodi’s house in Hafeez Baba Nagar. Almoodi wanted Abdul to vacate the house, and Abdul was refusing to do so. In that dispute, Omer supported his uncle and Almoodi bore a grudge against him,” the DCP said.Police said Almoodi allegedly conspired with Aman Qureshi, a schoolmate of Omer who already had differences with him, to eliminate the businessman. Investigators alleged that Almoodi promised Qureshi a substantial amount of money to carry out the murder, following which others were roped into the conspiracy. On Nov 3, Qureshi allegedly called Omer to the spot on the pretext of settling the dispute with Almoodi. “While other accused prevented Omer from leaving the place, Qureshi stabbed Omer multiple times on the neck with a knife causing fatal injuries,” the DCP said.According to police, after the murder, Qureshi and Khaled burnt their bloodstained clothes at a secluded location in Mallapur. They allegedly disposed of the knife and the victim’s mobile phone near Pahadi Shareef before taking shelter at a place of worship.“They dumped the knife and the victim’s phone near Pahadi Shareef and took shelter at a worship place there. While they were planning to escape to Kadapa, our team arrested them on Wednesday night,” the DCP said.Police recovered a knife, five mobile phones and four two-wheelers from the accused.
