Telangana Plans World-Class Golf Courses to Boost Tourism | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: The Telangana govt is planning a 130-acre golf course at Jawahar Nagar near Shamirpet and is also working on plans to develop another world-class golf course at Somasila, along the Krishna River.The proposed projects are aimed at creating international-standard golfing facilities and attracting professional and amateur golfers from across the world.Tourism and culture minister Jupally Krishna Rao on Saturday said Telangana is taking steps to develop world-class golf infrastructure and position the state as a global destination for golf tourism.“The proposed golf course at Somasila will be developed along a scenic stretch of the Krishna River, surrounded by the Nallamala forests and in the vicinity of the Amrabad Tiger Reserve. The unique natural setting offers an opportunity to create a distinctive golf-tourism destination that combines sport, nature and tourism,” he said.The proposed golf-tourism infrastructure will be developed with private participation under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Once developed, Somasila is expected to further strengthen Telangana’s position as a major hub for golf tourism.The minister was speaking at a media conference held in connection with the 12th Telangana Golconda Masters at the Hyderabad Golf Club, Golconda. The tournament is being organised by the DP World Professional Golf Tour of India (DP World PGTI) in association with the Hyderabad Golf Association (HGA), with Telangana Tourism as the event partner, along with others.Jupally said the Telangana Golconda Masters was not merely a sporting event but an opportunity to bring together international golf, Telangana’s rich heritage and its tourism potential.Minister Jupally said the Telangana govt was keen to utilise the services and experience of Kapil Dev for promoting tourism and sports in the state. His association with Telangana’s tourism and sporting initiatives would help take the state’s tourism attractions and sporting potential to a wider national and international audience, he said.Kapil Dev appreciated the continued support extended by Telangana Tourism to the Telangana Golconda Masters and said the tournament would help promote Telangana and Hyderabad as important golf-tourism destinations.He thanked the Hyderabad Golf Association for providing the venue and expressed confidence that the tournament would offer an excellent platform for competitive professional golf.HGA Captain Jasvinder Singh Birgi welcomed the opportunity to host the 12th edition of the Telangana Golconda Masters and said the participation of leading professional golfers would give HGA members an opportunity to watch high-level competitive golf.The Telangana Golconda Masters will be held from September 1 to 4, with 132 golfers competing for a total prize purse of ₹1 crore. The field includes leading Indian professionals as well as golfers from overseas.The tournament carries Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points and forms part of the Race to DP World India Championship. The event will contribute towards determining the DP World PGTI No. 1 player and the top 24 players who qualify for the season-ending DP World India Championship.The Government of Telangana has extended its support to the tournament since its inception in 2015.
