Diner finds human tooth in mutton mandi at Madhapur eatery | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: A mouthful of mutton mandi turned into a stomach-churning experience for a diner who allegedly found what appeared to be a human tooth in his food at a Madhapur restaurant on Wednesday, prompting a food safety inspection. The incident occurred at The Joint Al Mandi on Wednesday afternoon when Shyam Prasad, who was dining with a friend, spotted a small, decayed tooth-like object in the dish. When the duo questioned the staff, they were initially told it could be a mutton bone, Prasad alleged. He said the staff later acknowledged that it appeared to be a human tooth after they insisted on having it checked.“They initially did not admit it was a tooth. But later admitted it and offered us complimentary food. We stepped out, but I fell sick and vomited. We then called the food safety department, whose officials arrived hours later,” Shyam Prasad said.Following the complaint, Madhapur food safety officer Niharika inspected the restaurant’s kitchen and the meat stored in its refrigerator. She reportedly found that some food handlers had missing teeth and cavities. However, these observations did not establish how the object had entered the dish.Officials also reportedly faced difficulty determining how the object could have ended up in the food, as there were no cameras installed in the kitchen.“We have inspected the kitchen and meat stored in the refrigerator and collected samples for laboratory testing. We will examine them and send a report to the additional collector before taking legal action accordingly. The restaurant could face a hefty fine,” Niharika said.
