Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday urged Union agriculture and rural development minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to sanction 9.5 lakh houses sought by Telangana under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G).Revanth met Chouhan in Madhapur, where the Union minister was attending the south zone agriculture conference. The CM also briefed him on the impact of El Nino conditions on Telangana’s agriculture sector. He sought the Centre’s support in tackling the challenges arising from deficient rainfall.
The CM thanked the Centre for sanctioning two lakh houses to Telangana in the first phase of PMAY-G. He recalled that he had submitted a representation to Chouhan in Delhi in July seeking houses for 11,56,915 eligible rural families in the state. Revanth requested that the remaining 9.5 lakh houses be sanctioned as per Telangana’s requirement.Revanth said deficient rainfall had increased electricity consumption in the agricultural sector. The state govt had prepared advance plans to prevent shortages of drinking water and electricity and sought the Centre’s support to address the impact of El Nino conditions on farming.He also highlighted the state’s initiative to supply fine-quality rice to poor families through ration shops. Farmers are being encouraged to cultivate fine-variety paddy with a bonus of ₹500 and adopt alternative crops and crop diversification in view of the prevailing conditions, he said.Revanth informed Chouhan that a 250-acre fruits and vegetables market was being developed to international standards and sought the Centre’s cooperation in promoting crop diversification among farmers.He sought central support for Telangana’s rural housing and agriculture needs in coming months amid changing weather conditions.Ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Tummala Nageswara Rao, chief secretary Sanjay Jaju and housing board vice-chairperson VP Gautham accompanied the CM.
