Party discipline behind removal of Surekha, Chinna Reddy: Congress

Hyderabad: Congress disciplinary committee chairperson Mallu Ravi on Thursday said Konda Surekha and Chinna Reddy were removed from their posts as the party high command felt their continuation could harm both the Congress and the govt.Describing the action as part of party discipline, Ravi said he had prepared and submitted reports on both cases after examining all aspects of their conduct. He said the reports highlighted several serious issues, which were brought to the attention of the high command.Ravi said the high command subsequently conducted an inquiry into both cases and made a decision based on the reports he submitted.Responding to criticism that a woman had been removed from a post, Ravi said the Congress had taken this aspect into account while making subsequent appointments. He said Gadwal Vijayalakshmi was appointed vice-chairperson of the Planning Board and pointed out that she belonged to the Munnuru Kapu community.Similarly, Gundu Sudharani, who belongs to the Padmashali community, was appointed chairperson of the Kakatiya Textiles Development Corporation, he said.Ravi said the appointments were made with representation of different social groups in mind so that there was no perception that leaders from particular communities were being ignored.
