In one of his recent interviews, the beloved star looked back on working on one of the most iconic films of his career and said he did not have a good experience on set that could compare to working on the 1989 film.

The actor recently opened up about working on the sets of ‘Dead Poets Society’ while he was moderating a book talk for Kyle MacLachlan’s new memoir, ‘Fictional Selves.’ During the event, while talking about his relationship with MacLachlan, Hawke shared that for years after his breakout role, he believed that this “is what making a movie was like”; however, he was hit with a major reality check.While he did book a lot of gigs following his massive success with ‘Dead Poets Society,’ nothing else ever matched the experience behind the scenes, at least not for 10 years after the film was released. He talked about the same and shared, “And that for me was the hard part of growing up, which I feel for you when I read [Fictional Selves]. What happens is when you have these beautiful experiences… I had a great experience with Peter Weir, and then I went 10 years without having a great experience.”Hawke also added, “I thought Dead Poets Society was what making a movie was like. It’s not what it’s like. A lot of people are really cold and crass and mean, and they really want to sell something, and they want to manipulate you, and they don’t respect actors.”
