Iltija Mufti joins MBBS, BDS interns‘ strike over ‘low’ stipend

SRINAGAR: PDP’s Iltija Mufti Tuesday joined the MBBS and BDS interns’ protest at Srinagar Government Medical College on Tuesday, a day after they began their indefinite strike across J&K demanding an increase in their monthly stipend from Rs 12,300 to Rs 30,000 and the govt agreed to consider their demand.Saying that Odisha and West Bengal provide around Rs 45,000 a month stipend, Iltija urged the J&K govt to immediately initiate dialogue with the protesting interns.On Monday, health and medical education minister Sakina Itoo requested the interns to call off their strike, saying it was affecting patient care. “Their demands are genuine. The govt is already working on it,“ Itoo had said.
