IIT-H to hold expo on laser technology from Dec 9-13

Hyderabad: IIT Hyderabad will showcase its indigenously developed high-power laser technologies for directed-energy applications at Photonics 2026, the 17th international conference on fiber optics and photonics, to be held from Dec 9 to 13.The conference will feature Nobel laureate Prof Donna Strickland and bring together researchers, industry leaders and young scientists from across the world. The conference will focus on advances in photonics, the science and technology of generating, controlling and detecting light, and its applications in areas such as defence, space, healthcare and quantum technologies. The programme will cover fibre optics, lasers, ultrafast and nonlinear photonics, optical communications, sensing, imaging and integrated photonics.“Photonics is a broad field with applications across sectors such as defence, space, healthcare and quantum technologies. The conference will bring together researchers working across these areas, from fundamental science to applied technologies,” conference convener Dr Nithyanandan Kanagaraj told TOI.IIT-H will also showcase research in nanophotonics, terahertz technologies, ultrafast optics and biophotonics. Kanagaraj said the institute’s work spans different stages of development, with some projects at the fundamental research stage and others at more advanced stages of technology translation.Around 450 manuscripts have been accepted at the first deadline, with organisers expecting more than 800 presentations after the review process. This edition will feature a techno-commercial exhibition and four special initiatives: PhotonBridge for industry-academia collaboration, LaunchLight for startups, InsightLab for PhD researchers and SheShines to promote women’s leadership in photonics.
