Hyderabad to get ₹85k crore push for infrastructure, urban development: Bhatti

Hyderabad: The Telangana govt has drawn up plans to spend ₹84,790 crore on Hyderabad’s infrastructure and urban development, with projects worth around ₹50,000 crore at various stages of design, tendering and execution, deputy chief minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said on Friday. He said the investments would cover roads, water supply, sewage treatment and other infrastructure, adding that construction activity would be visible across different parts of the city over the next year.He was speaking at the inauguration of the 16th NAREDCO Telangana Property Show at the HITEX Exhibition Centre, which began on Friday and will continue until Nov 1. Highlighting the govt’s infrastructure plans, Bhatti said the first phase of the Musi River rejuvenation project was being taken up at an estimated cost of ₹7,500 crore. “Tomorrow, the Musi River in Hyderabad is going to be the biggest jewel of the city,” he said. The govt is also planning sewage treatment plants along 21 major nalas to prevent untreated wastewater from entering the river. He said treated water would be reused for industrial and gardening purposes. The govt is also considering relocating industries within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) to locations outside it to reduce pollution and gradually replacing conventional city buses with battery-operated vehicles, he said. Referring to the broader infrastructure push, the deputy CM said the govt wanted Hyderabad to compete with cities in developed countries and remain a major destination for businesses and investors.Urging the state govt to consider reducing GST on construction materials for at least two years, citing rising input costs, Sreedhar Reddy Koppula, president of NAREDCO Telangana, said the construction industry was the second-largest employment generator after agriculture, employing around seven crore people across the country. The industry body also sought a revision of electricity tariffs for projects under construction, pointing out that large developments typically take five to eight years to complete. It proposed that such projects be charged commercial tariffs during construction instead of temporary connection rates. The exhibition features apartments, villas, plotted developments and commercial properties, with participating financial institutions offering guidance on home loans and financing options. Entry to the exhibition is free, and the show is open from 10 am to 8 pm.
