Harassed by recovery agents over missed EMI, postman dies by suicide | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: A 35-year-old postman died by suicide after finance company staff allegedly confronted and threatened him over a missed EMI payment in Savargaon village of Neradigonda mandal, Adilabad on Saturday.Police said the deceased, Jadhav Anil, had been working as a postman at the post office in Koratikal (B) village for the past four years. He had taken loans from two private finance companies to meet his financial requirements, including loans against a car and a house.Anil had borrowed money from a finance company, for which he was paying an EMI of ₹20,000, and had taken a ₹5 lakh loan from another finance company, for which his monthly EMI was ₹15,000. Police said he had been making the repayments regularly.However, Anil could not pay the EMIs this month after his bank account was frozen due to some reasons, despite having money in the account. From the first week of the month, staff from the finance companies allegedly began visiting his house and pressuring him and his family members to make the payments.On Saturday, Anil went to the post office at Neradigonda as part of his duty. Around noon, while he was returning to his home for lunch, staff of the two finance companies allegedly intercepted him on the outskirts of the village and demanded payment. They allegedly threatened him over the pending EMIs, police said.Anil then returned home in a distressed state. Around noon, he died by suicide.Anil’s father Kishan lodged a complaint with police, seeking action against the finance company staff whom he held responsible for his son’s death. Neradigonda SI Imran said a case had been registered and an investigation was underway.Anil is survived by his wife and two children.
