Eatala vows to quit politics if Centre fails to fund Jawaharnagar dump relocation

Hyderabad: BJP MP Eatala Rajender on Thursday challenged chief minister A Revanth Reddy to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for relocating Jawaharnagar dumping yard, pledging to secure funds from the Centre and vowing to quit politics if he failed to get them sanctioned. The Malkajgiri Lok Sabha MP, who launched a padayatra demanding permanent relocation of the dump located in his constituency, said he was confident of finding a lasting solution before starting his campaign. He said he would persuade Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s govt to provide funds if the Telangana govt prepared a DPR.He was speaking on the third day of ‘Jawaharnagar Jana Sankalpa Yatra’, which began from Keesara. Local residents welcomed him, and he paid tributes to BR Ambedkar at his statue in Keesara.Eatala said he had fought with six chief ministers in his political career and had launched the campaign to secure relief for residents affected by the dumping yard. He alleged that leachate from waste had contaminated local lakes and groundwater, with borewells yielding green-coloured water. He also alleged that waste management by Ramky was inadequate.Calling for a solution focused on public health rather than financial considerations, Eatala said modern technology could convert waste into wealth through recycling, ensuring that no waste was wasted. He criticised Revanth Reddy for neglecting residents who had voted for him and urged the state govt to take responsibility for improving their living conditions. He also questioned how govt could undertake the Musi river rejuvenation at a cost of lakhs of crores when it had not addressed the dumping yard issue, which he estimated would require just Rs 2,000 crore.Eatala said his agitation would continue until Jawaharnagar dumping yard was relocated. He appealed to the affected residents to attend a public meeting scheduled for Friday at Jawaharnagar. BJP Legislature Party leader Aleti Maheshwar Reddy is expected to attend.
