CM Revanth Directs Full Capacity Power Generation at Yadadri | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday directed officials to ensure that the Yadadri Thermal Power Station operates at its full installed capacity before Dasara next month, expressing concern over the plant’s failure to achieve optimum generation.Revanth Reddy and deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka, who also holds the energy portfolio, reviewed the functioning of the power sector at the MCRHRD Institute’s CM camp office. During the meeting, officials said the Yadadri plant requires G9-grade coal, which Singareni Collieries currently does not produce in sufficient quantities.The officials said there was little possibility of Singareni supplying the required grade in the near future. This prompted the CM and deputy CM to question why the plant was designed to use G9 coal when such coal was unavailable from Singareni, and why it was built away from the pithead.Officials attributed the plant’s location to political considerations during the previous BRS govt’s tenure. They also estimated that transporting coal to the plant would impose an additional financial burden of around ₹40,000 crore on Telangana.The meeting was also informed that Singareni had not secured G9 coal through auctions and that 14 of its coal blocks had already been closed. In view of the state’s power requirements, Revanth directed officials to explore procuring coal from Mahanadi Coalfields and Coal India.He asked Bhatti to immediately discuss the issue with Union coal minister G Kishan Reddy and explore arrangements for coal supplies.Revanth also directed officials to ensure uninterrupted electricity for lift-irrigation motor pumps and agricultural activities, while asking thermal plants to operate at full capacity and DISCOMs to procure power according to demand.Officials further informed the meeting that the Centre had advised DISCOMs to supply only solar power for agricultural purposes. The CM instructed Singareni to ensure quality coal supplies to GENCO to prevent disruptions in generation.
