Arijit Singh: After slamming ‘Dhurandhar’ for recreating old songs, Sameer Anjaan blames industry monotony and exhaustion for Arijit Singh’s playback singing exit: ‘Every song sounds the same’ | Hindi Movie News

Noted lyricist Sameer Anjaan has weighed in on superstar singer Arijit Singh‘s decision to step away from playback singing, pointing to repetitiveness in today’s music as a key factor behind the move.
Why did Sameer Anjaan say Arijit Singh left playback singing?
The veteran wordsmith made these remarks during his appearance on trade analyst Komal Nahta’s podcast, Game Changers: The Music Series, where the discussion centred on how excessive output can lead to creative fatigue among artists. Addressing the present scenario in playback singing, he said, “What is happening to the new artists? People gave multiple opportunities to them. We had one Arijit Singh, but he got so exhausted that he left the industry. We keep hearing the same monotonous songs, with constant repetition. Every song sounds the same.”Arijit Singh officially announced his retirement from playback singing on January 27, 2026, clarifying that while he would stop taking new assignments, he would continue creating music independently.
What did Sameer Anjaan say about lack of variety in music today?
Continuing his thoughts, Sameer explained, “Arijit understood that if he continued doing this for longer, he would become monotonous. He wasn’t getting a variety of songs; they were tailored to his singing style. All the new singers after him kept singing in the same style. In the previous generation, when we had Udit Narayan and others, there was such variety in music. Nowadays, we don’t have that. That is why every sensible person in this line will eventually leave.”
