AIMIM MLC approaches cybercrime police over deepfake threat | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MLC Mirza Rehmath Baigh approached the cybercrime police after unidentified persons allegedly made internet-based calls and attempted to extort money from him.Baigh told the police that he recently received calls in which the caller threatened to defame him by circulating deepfake videos unless he agreed to pay money.The MLC suspects that his political rivals could be behind the calls and alleged that they were attempting to tarnish his reputation. He urged the police to investigate the matter and take steps to protect his dignity.The cybercrime police registered a case under Sections 308 (extortion) and 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
